Trying Out a New Kale Salad

The final product, Red Quinoa and baby kale salad with sweet potato fries and blackberry dressing, and added feta cheese

Monday Night Cook-All

This past Monday night, the man and I tested out a new recipe from a new cookbook, Simple Green Suppers, A Fresh Strategy for One-Dish Vegetarian Meals. We also put together some easy lunches for the next day, and I thought I’d document it all because food is fun—end of story.

Meal Preppin‘ for the Win

Happy Wednesday! How’s your week going?

I thought I’d share a little sample of what my meals have looked like lately. This installment includes tons of veggiesfruitsgrains, and fish!

The man is so good at packing lunches and planning meals, and I’m really loving the routine. It’s economical and sets you up for success (except for outlier-days like Burrito-gate).

Take a look!

IT’S STILL SUMMER

This recipe was inspired by The Floating Kitchen‘s Almond-Crusted Goat Cheese, Peach, & Fig Salad. We tweaked it a tad and enjoyed it immensely.

The Difference 30 Pounds Makes

Losing 30 pounds with intuitive eating and running | THE REAL LIFE Blog | fitness, exercise, health, running, half marathon, working out, healthy eating, intuitive eating

A DIFFERENT PERSON

This is a tough post to write. Vulnerability at its finest.

I want to revisit the me 30+ pounds ago, reflect upon how different I’ve become, and remember why the weight loss means more to me than just a pretty picture.

DISCLAIMER: I am now recovering from a restrictive eating disorder… and now that the fog has lifted, that photo of me on the right is terrifying. I now look much like the girl on the left again, and I couldn’t be happier. Read all about my recovery here and here, and then read on with caution.

A Stop at Savory Spice Shop

Savory Spice Shop in downtown Littleton, Colorado

This past Saturday, the man and I headed to downtown Littleton so I could pick up some tan character shoes from Penny Robin Dancewear.

After hearing patrons and staff talk highly of Savory Spice Shop (a Colorado business, located just down the street), we excitedly stopped in to see what we could find.

Spoiler: What we found is a lot of really great, handcrafted spices & seasonings inspired by Colorado landscape.

Hiking 5 miles at Waterton Canyon, the Denver terminus for the Colorado Trail | THE REAL LIFE Blog | fitness, running, health, eating, food, foodie, Colorado.jpg

This past Fourth of July weekend, the man and I went for a 5-mile hike at the beautiful Waterton Canyon.

I had never been before, and he’s been talking about how it’s a beautiful site for a long run… perhaps after my crazy performance schedule is over. He was right!

Check out the scenery.

A Cheese Plate to Envy

Cheese plate

+ BREAD + WINE

This past Friday, I left the office at 2pm (summer hours are the best) and met up with the man—Nick’s his name—for an easy 3.5-mile run in City Park to round out the long-yet-crazily-productive week before our food-centric Date Night at Home.

This time around, we planned a cheese, freshly baked bread, and wine feast. After leaving the bread to rise, getting our workout in, and picking up some cheesy goodness from Sprouts, we headed home to quickly shower before indulging in deliciousness.

A Breakfast Date at The Wooden Spoon

BRUNCH IN THE DENVER HIGHLANDS: The Wooden Spoon Cafe and Bakery

BRUNCH, MADAM?

This weekend was a bit crazy, so instead of a date night, the man and I scheduled a Breakfast Date!

We have a running list of date ideas, as well as one for breakfast places to visit. Yeah, we’re that cool. This time around, the lists overlapped and we planned a romantic brunch at The Wooden Spoon Cafe & Bakery in the Highlands.
