Platte River Half Race Photos!

Platte River Half Marathon

Good, unflattering, & hilarious

I was a little frustrated with the Platte River Half Marathon official race photo situation this year. Their photographer was only offering prints for purchase; there was no digital option. But then I politely emailed him about it, and he sent me these for free.

Here you’ll see just how in shape Nick is: He smiles and waves throughout the run while I grimace and grumble. It’s pretty funny, actually.

Race Weekend Snapshots

Our First Race Together

This was my 6th half marathon and Nick’s 2nd (he leap-frogged into a full marathon and then ultra distances). I’ve never run alongside someone for the entire duration of a race, so this was a cool experience.

Here’s a breakdown of the weekend, and the race: how it felt, what went well, what didn’t, and whether or not I’d run the Platte River Half Marathon again.

Scenes From a Long Run

Scenes From My Long Run, running, fitness, food, half marathon training, Denver Colorado Wash Park

Before, During, & After

Happy Monday! How was your weekend? We switched things up a bit and did our long runs on Saturday this time around. I’m kind of a fan of the change.

The man had a more intense run on his training schedule—14+ miles of trail at White Ranch Open Space—and I did a solo long run of 9 miles at Wash Park and the surrounding neighborhoods.

I took this opportunity to document everything that happens in the hours prepping for a long run, scenes along the way, and how I decompress/celebrate afterward. Enjoy!

An 8-Mile Run + Deliciousness

This Sunday, the man and I got up early to run an 8-mile long run along the Highline Canal in Englewood, through the beautiful Cherry Hills Village community.

After the strong run in chilly weather, we drove home and partook in a glorious brunch, created of course by Nick, the culinary genius. Check it out!

Weekend Snapshots

It’s Feelin’ Like Fall

(…except for the heat.)

This weekend left me with that rare sensation of true relaxation. Life has posed lots of ups and downs lately, so to be able to let go of the stress for a short while is quite the achievement, I’d say.

Here’s a little photo recap (of course, it’s mostly food).

My New Asics Running Shoes

My hands-down favorite running shoes: ASICS | The Real Life Blog | Running, fitness, food, exercise, foodie, intuitive eating, healthy

Happy Thursday, folks! My new Asics came in the mail this week, and I absolutely love them. I trained for and ran my first half marathon in Asics, and a few more, and then veered off course with Brooks and Mizunos—learning all too well that Asics are (for now) the only running shoes for me.

What will I do with my old, beat-up Asics, you ask? I’ll add a little life to them on August 27th at The Color Run Tropicolor Denver!

A Running Tally of All My Races

Hey, guys! This post will be updated to keep an ongoing race log—a digital version of the above race medal display, if you will.

By the way, the tutorial for making the display is super easy (and free!), and can be found on Two Moms and a Journey. I want to tackle that one day.

Race Face! Official Colfax Half Marathon Photos

[WHAT is the skin on my calf doing in the above picture?!]

If these weren’t photos of me running a PR half marathon—one that was extremely emotionally significant to me—then I’d probably delete them from the Universe.

But they are, and vanity aside, I love seeing on the exterior what I know I was going through inside: pain, struggle, reserve, and inner strength. Check out the photos!

Race Recap: My Thoughts on the 2016 Colfax Half Marathon

I accomplished my goal of running 13.1 miles in UNDER TWO HOURS! While my official time was 2:03:25, my goal was to break 2 hours of actual running time.

I paused the Garmin Forerunner only when I stopped to drink water, quickly eat a Clif Shot Block and/or cantaloupe, and once to pee. I never walked one step of the actual 13.1, and my average pace was 9:04. I PRed everything. I can’t believe it!
