Happy Total Solar Eclipse Day!
As the moon slowly approaches our line of sight of the sun… I’m recapping my weekend, which was full of wine, running, delicious eats, and a mystery gift for Harper.
Friday night, I attended an event for work: the American Institute of Architects awards gala at the Grand Hyatt Denver’s Pinnacle Club downtown. The club is on the 38th floor with absolutely stunning views of the city, both during daylight and when the sun goes down. I was blown away, and wish I had a picture to show you! I wore my Nordstrom Rack dress, which was a hit. I paired it with my nude Nine West heels that I got from Ross a few years ago.
The event was a lot of fun, and while the food was not my favorite (the vegetarian option was a hollowed out zucchini with bland quinoa inside), I enjoyed the company of my coworkers and the free wine. After three glasses, I was ready for bed at 9:30! Ha.
Saturday morning, Harps had us up bright and early. Nick ventured off to run 20+ miles in the mountains for training, and I logged two laps at the park.
This was my first long run (over 5 miles) in over two months! I planned to do 6 but ended up with 7 steady miles. It feels so great to build strength again!
On my run, I tested out the new Stance running socks that Nick surprised me with this week! He knows the keys to my heart (food, running gear, more food).
I love these socks and might not ever go back to other brands. They made my old-AF Asics feel not so old. And I didn’t have any blisters (something I’m prone to). Harper says, “Your feet are stinky!”
After my run I did some household chores, laundry, and some groceries before Nick got home. We ordered a Cosmo’s pizza and watched The Keepers on Netflix, the world’s most horrifying and depressing documentary to date. Has anyone watched it? Yikes.
This weekend, Harper received a surprise gift in the mail from BarkShop! I didn’t remember ordering anything from the company, so I was mightily confused.
Inside was this ultra-durable chew toy in the shape of a rosé wine bottle! How perfect is this gift? I texted everyone I know asking, “Did you send this to us?!”
Eventually I figured out that it was from Jordan, one of my friend Liz’s good friends, to whom I gave Harper’s transport crate because she and her husband were in the process of adopting a new lab puppy, Oliver! The thank you gift was extra thoughtful and she gets ALL the cool points. Maybe Harps will meet Oliver one day!
The gift came with this fun social media encouragement, which I have yet to post to Harper’s Instagram.
Harper is a queen who recently decided (…most likely when Nick was out of town for a week on his trip with the guys) that she can jump onto the sofa whenever she pleases. Whoops! I’m a sucker for her puppy-dog eyes and funny deer legs. We’ll look into the best way to train her to ask for sofa permission. Until then… I can’t help but enable the behavior by taking pictures and cuddling her in the mornings.
Sunday, after spending the afternoon with one of Nick’s college friends in town (which included lunch at Snarf’s, like ya do) Nick baked more of his fresh baked bread and I dreamed up our dinner: a chopped kale Goddess salad with garlic shrimp! We made it happen and it was GOOD. We said to each other, in between giant mouthfuls, that this needs to be a staple meal in our lives.
I can’t wait to see the eclipse from my office this morning! What are you up to?
The bottle of rose chew toy is adorable! It sounds like you had a great weekend. It’s not that your local park has such a long loop to run on, mine is only half a mile so I’m constantly trying to avoid it on long runs.
Have a great day 🙂

Thanks, and true! The loop itself is around 2.5 miles, but from our house the whole trek is about 4.5. Two loops is doable… but more than that gets a bit repetitive.

I think you are on to something. Harper is a cross between an Shepard and a deer! LOL I love the photo of her on the sofa. Pass on the Shrimp and Kale recipe if you have the time. Looks yummy!

Sometimes she looks like a piglet, too. She’s constantly transforming! 🙂
Garlic shrimp:
Sauté the shrimp in butter, all the fresh minced garlic in the universe, and (this is KEY) smoked paprika seasoning.
Kale salad:
Chopped kale + Annie’s (Organic) Goddess Dressing. So good!
