This past holiday weekend included a lot of great food and Harper pics, duh.
Friday afternoon I went to the gym and ran 2.6 miles of intervals on the treadmill before a 3-hour Dolly rehearsal.
Saturday morning, Nick and I took Harper to another Kinder Pup class at the Denver Paw School… but not before Nick sported his new German Shepherd socks. Harper was embarrassed.
She also was less than thrilled when I tried to balance her rope toy on her head. She looks innocent, but she deserved it! 😉
Harper did really well in class and even started falling asleep mid-play-sesh due to all the stimulation! Well worth our money.
After a voice lesson on Saturday afternoon, Nick and I had a lazy evening, which was just what the doctor ordered. We went for a drink and some treats at The Spot, where we saw this flier:
We’ll have to make sure we do it this weekend!
We also ordered a Cosmo’s pizza that night. What what.
Sunday morning we broke out these cute place mats my mom got us and enjoyed another delicious breakfast!
After taking Harper to Liz and Roland’s yard, we had a muesli snack before I needed to head over to the Cherry Creek Arts Festival for work!
Muesli is the new little trend in our household. I love it with almond milk, chia seeds, peanut butter, and cinnamon.
I had a delicious and surprisingly light gyros sandwich at the festival. Yum! This is definitely turning into a food-centric post. Whatever. Food is life!
After the festival, I met up with my childhood friend Jenn who was in Denver on vacation. We had dinner and drinks at Highland Tap & Burger! It had been a while since we last saw each other, so naturally we ordered a couple cans(!?) of rose. It was great to catch up with her! I had a delicious black bean burger and fries + copious amounts of ketchup like a boss.
I didn’t have Monday off of work (and I had to work the event on Sunday), which made for a very weird holiday “weekend.” I started the day with some upper body strength training at home while the pup gave me weird looks. Nick headed out to go on a 10-mile hike after being cleared by his physical therapist. He was so excited and had a great time!
After work, I went to the gym and ran 3 miles on the treadmill. It felt so good and gave me much-needed energy. I started at an easy 10:30 pace, and by the end of it, I was running an 8:00 pace. Then I went to a 3-hour dance rehearsal. But first, Nick made an outstanding dinner:
Tuna steak with green beans and a homemade sauce + a kale/green bean Caesar salad (not pictured). I am now in love with tuna steaks and want to eat them every day.
Tuesday was the Fourth of July, of course! We slept in a little, and Nick made this gorgeous breakfast sandwich that I promptly tore apart and inhaled. Yum! (He made the pickles and pickled jalapeños/carrots himself!)
Then we went back to “the yard” to romp and play and soak up some sun.
Nick is the chief of great ideas. While we were playing with Harper, he proposed that get some hotdogs and do our own little Independence Day picnic in the shade. He ran to Sprouts and got us all these delicious treats!
I honestly look like the laziest person compared to him. Not even compared to him. I am lazy and he does all these genius amazing things. I am not worthy!
Anyway, we had a delectable lunch of two hotdogs, salt + vinegar chips, lemonade, watermelon, and chocolate cake.
Harper had her first taste of watermelon and was all “meh.” Are you even American, pup? Oh yeah, you’re German. 😉
Cheers to no work and all play!
Even the puppy got a special meal. 🙂
After an old-person nap, Nick and I ate another hot dog… and then ordered another Cosmo’s pizza while watching Shimmer Lake on Netflix. We also had some wine and Justin’s dark chocolate peanut butter cups. Meanwhile, Harper barely even noticed the loud fireworks going on outside! It was a nice, relaxing evening.
How was your holiday weekend?
Sounds like a divine holiday weekend! I was in a parade to promote my next show, then day drank hard cider by a pond all day. And got a RIDICULOUS sunburn. Oops!

Sounds nice minus the sunburn! What show are you doing?!
